SUMMARY

MSHelp is an automated e-mail response system that you can use for retrieving any Microsoft Knowledge Base article or other Microsoft Technical Support packaged content via e-mail.

You can use MSHelp by sending an e-mail message to mshelp@microsoft.com. On the subject line of your message, you can specify the content you want from any of the following choices:

  • A Knowledge Base Article-ID number (Qnnnnnn) for which MSHelp returns a specific Knowledge Base article. You can specify a single Article-ID or multiple Article-IDs separated by commas, as in the following examples:

          Subject: Q162721
    

          -or-
    

          Subject: Q162302, Q162304, Q162721
    
  • The word "index" for which MSHelp returns a list of Knowledge Base articles and packaged content.

          Subject: Index
    
  • A six-digit identification number for packaged content listed in the MSHelp Index. You can specify a single identification number or multiple identification numbers separated by commas, as in the following examples:

          Subject: 999998
    

          -or-
    

          Subject: Q162302, 999998, 999976
    

When you send a message to mshelp@microsoft.com, your request will be processed within minutes of receipt. In return, you should receive the requested content in a timely manner. If MSHelp cannot interpret the Subject line of your message, it will send a copy of the MSHelp index which contains instructions for using the automated e-mail response system.

The MSHelp Index is updated monthly. You can request a new version of the index each month by sending an e-mail message to mshelp@microsoft.com with the word "index" on the subject line.
