With American Express, it is possible to download your account
information directly into Microsoft Money. The following article
provides instructions on how to set up American Express accounts
and enable them for Home Banking in Money 5.0.

When installing Money, Setup asks if you want to configure the system to
use Online Services. It is important to click Yes for this option. This
installs Dial-Up Networking, a Windows 95 service, and enables the
computer to connect to the financial services.

Create an American Express Account
----------------------------------
 
Before starting, have the American Express account number(s) available.
 
    1. On the Contents screen, click Account Manager.
 
    2. Click New Account, to start the New Account Wizard.
 
    3. In the Bank Or Financial Institution list, type "American Express"
       (without the quotation marks) and click Next.
 
    4. For American Express Card accounts, select Credit Card or Charge
       Card in the account type list and click Next. For Investment
       Management Checking Accounts (IMAs), select Checking Account and
       click Next.
 
    5. Money suggests an account name. Accept this by clicking Next, or
       modify it and click Next.
 
    6. Enter the account number and click Next.
 
       NOTE: You must enter the complete account number without dashes or
       spaces.
 
    7. When asked how much is owed on this card, leave this field blank and
       click Next.
 
       NOTE: Money enters the correct outstanding balance during the first
       call to American Express.
 
    8. Money can remind you to pay the American Express Card bill every
       month.
 
       a. If you want this reminder, enter the average monthly bill in
          the "Estimated Monthly Amount" field. Confirm the other
          settings and click Next.
 
       b. If you do not want this reminder, click to clear
          "Yes, Remind Me When The Bill Is Due" and click Next.
 
    9. If there are other American Express accounts to set up at this time
       click Next. Repeat steps 4 to 8 with the information for each
       account.
 
   10. If there are no more accounts, select "I Have No Other Accounts
       At This Bank" and click Next.
 
   11. Make sure the "Yes I Want To Find Out About Online Services" is
       selected, and click Next.
 
   12. Read the descriptions of Online Services and click Next.
 
       NOTE: To learn more, click Frequently Asked Questions.
 
   13. When asked for the Identification Number for American Express, enter
       the first 6 digits of the American Express Card number in the space
       provided and click Next. For IMA accounts, enter 021000128 and click
       Next.
 
   14. Click Connect. Money places a call to the Branding Directory
       Server to download information on how to connect to American
       Express.
 
       NOTE: If Money asks you to select the institution from a list,
       select American Express and click Next.
 
   15. After the call to the Branding Directory Server is complete, there
       is a message explaining the services offered by American Express and
       Money.
 
   16. If you have not signed up for Home Banking with American Express,
       click More Information to learn how to sign up for Online Services.
 
   17. After receiving your password, continue with the Online Services
       Setup Wizard. Click Next.
 
   18. Make sure "Yes, I Have This Information" is selected and click
       Next, twice.
 
   19. Money asks you how your system connects to the Internet. Click
       "Use My Internet Service Provider" and select your Internet
       Service Provider (ISP) from the list. If you have set up a
       proxy on the system, click "Use My Proxy To Connect To The Internet"
       option.
 
       NOTE: Some ISPs, such as America Online version 3.0 for Windows 95,
       do not appear in the list box. For more information about how to

   20. Click Next.
 
   21. Enter your Social Security Number, without dashes or spaces, in
       Your ID and click Next.
 
       NOTE: If you do not have a Social Security Number, enter the nine
       digit number provided to you by the American Express customer
       service representative when you called to enroll.
 
   22. Click to select the first account you would like to enable for Home
       Banking and click Next.
 
   23. Make sure the Online Banking check box is selected and click Next.
 
   24. Confirm the accuracy of the information on the following screen
       and click Next.
 
       WARNING: If you have multiple accounts, the Routing Number may vary.
       Make sure that this information is correct for this account.
 
   25. If you have another account you would like to set up, click "Yes, I
       Want To Set Up Another Account" and click Next. Repeat steps 21-23.
 
   26. If you have no other accounts to enable for Home Banking, click
       "No, I'm Finished With Online Services Setup", and click Next.
 
   27. On the final screen, click Finish.
 
To Connect to American Express
------------------------------
 
   1. In Account Manager, select one of your American Express accounts
      and click Home Banking.
 
   2. On the Connect tab, click Connect.
 
   3. Enter your password, click Connect.
 
   4. Money connects to American Express using your Internet Service
      Provider (ISP) and downloads your bank statement and latest balance.
 
      NOTE: With some ISPs, you may need to start the ISP and connect to
      the Internet before attempting to connect in Money. Ham
