SYMPTOMS
========

When you insert a Draw object into a Database report, if you filter and
group the report, the Draw object may disappear.

CAUSE
=====

When you create a report with groups, if you also apply a filter,
the filter may void the grouping option and this causes the Draw object to
disappear.

For example, if your report is grouped by teacher your report will display
a list of students for each teacher. However, if you then apply a filter
that filters only Dr. Smith's class, then the group element has been
voided.

RESOLUTION
==========

Create two reports. Set up the first report to group your information.
Set up the second report if you want to apply a filter that may void
the grouping option.

MORE INFORMATION
================

In the following example, this problem only occurs when the filter voids
the group option. If your filter includes Name begins with B or Name
begins with D, the draw object will not disappear.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior
-------------------------------

 1. Create a database with the following information:

    Field Name:    Name
    Data:          Bob
                   Barbara
                   Denise
                   Edward
                   Adam
                   Amy

 2. Create a report with the following criteria:

    Report Name:     TEST 1
    Report Fields:   Add all fields
                     Display Options: Show Field Names At Top Of Each Page
                     Display Options: Show Data
    Report Sorting: Sort By NAME A to Z
    Report Grouping: Group NAME With Same First Letter
    Report Filter:   Show all
    Report Summary: No summary information. Click Done.

 3. On the Format menu point to Report Options then slide to Layout.

 4. Drag the horizontal bar labeled "Group Title: name" down.

 5. In the gap between "Page Heading" and "Group Title: name" insert a
    Draw object. For example on your tool palette click the circle tool
    and draw a circle in the gap.

 6. On the Format menu point to Report Options then slide to Layout so you
    can view your data. You will see your data is grouped and the Draw
    object you created in step 5 above is visible.

 7. To make the Draw object disappear, on the Format menu point to Report
    Options then slide to Layout.

 8. On the Format menu point to Report Options then slide over to Filter.

 9. Click Create New Filter.

10. Name the filter: Name Starts with B

11. Under the Field heading choose "name".

12. Under the Comparison heading choose "begins with".

13. Under the Compare to heading type in "b" (without the quotation
    marks).

14. Click OK.

15. Click Done.

16. On the Format menu point to Report Options then slide to over to
    Layout. You will be viewing your filtered data. Only Bob and Barbara
    will appear. Also, note the draw object is visible here.

17. On the File menu click Print Preview. The draw object disappears.

18. Click Cancel to return to report view. The draw object is missing from
    this view as well.

When you change to Layout view, the draw object will be present above the
Group Title line. However because nothing is being grouped (based on the
present filter) all the information above the Group Title bar will
disappear.
