SYMPTOMS
========

While you are connected to the Internet Gaming Zone, you receive the
following error message:

   Connection to the server has been terminated.

CAUSE
=====

The error message means you were able to establish a connection to the
Zone logon server, but the game server terminated the connection.

The game server terminates the connection when the communication
response time between your computer and the Zone server does not meet
the minimum response threshold. A termination can also occur if your
Member ID contains a word or word-fragment that has been added to the
disallowed names filter.

The Zone tries to establish a continuous two-way connection with your
computer. If lag time problems exist in the network, you may have
problems connecting.

To test the connection, you can issue a TRACERT (Trace Route) command.
This is a route-tracing command that follows a packet through the
network and reports the time it takes between each router and switch.

To issue the TRACERT command, do the following:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click MS-DOS Prompt.

2. Type the following at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

      cd\

3. Type the following and press ENTER:

      tracert zone.com

4. View the information reported on the screen to see where the
   longest delay is, or where you are being "lost."

5. Write down the information (or capture the screen) and contact your
   Internet Service Provider (ISP). To capture your screen, press and
   hold the ALT key on your keyboard, then press the PRINT SCRN key. You
   can now paste this information into a mail message or word processor
   document.

   NOTE: If the problem occurs at Microsoft, you can email your TRACERT
   information to the Zone Webmaster at zmaster@microsoft.com.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The names filter is designed to prevent offensive member names from
appearing on the Zone. Sometimes the newly filtered word or fragment
can affect the filter and prevent connection using existing member names.

If you think your Member ID is the cause of your terminated connection,
please enter a new Member ID.
