SYMPTOMS
=======
 
The following error may appear when you install Money versions 1.0, 2.0,
2.0a, 3.0, or 3.0a on a computer running Windows 95:
 
   Unable to Start DDE Communication with Program Manager
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
Click the Ignore button to complete Setup or click the Abort button to
exit Setup.
 
The Money shortcut on the Start menu will not be created. You will
need to manually add a shortcut to Money on the Start menu. Follow the
steps below to create a shortcut:
 
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar.
 
2. On the Start Menu Programs tab, click the Add Button.
 
3. Type the following in the Command Line field
 
      c:\msmoney\msmoney.exe
 
   where "c:" is the hard drive you installed Money to and "msmoney"
   is the folder you installed it in. If you are unsure of the
   location of the Msmoney.exe file, you can click the Browse button
   to locate it.
 
4. Click the Next button.
 
5. Click the Programs folder and click Next.
 
6. Type Microsoft Money for the shortcut name and click the Finish
   button.
 
7. Click OK.
 
MORE INFORMATION
================
 
This error may occur when you are using a shell in Windows 95 other
than Explorer. It may also occur when other programs such as TSRs
(Terminate and Stay Resident) are in memory.
 
To change the shell back to Explorer, follow these steps:
 
1. Click the Start button, then click Run.
 
2. Type "system.ini" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box and
   click OK.
 
3. Look for the following line:
 
      Shell= (Filename).exe
 
   Change it to:
 
      Shell=Explorer.exe
 
4. Save and close the file.
 
5. Restart Windows.
 
6. Run Money Setup again.
 
To shut down any applications that could be interfering with setup,
follow these steps:
 
1. Press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys simultaneously.
 
2. Click a program.
 
3. Click the End Task button.
 
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until Explorer and Systray (if loaded) are
   the only applications running.
 
5. Run Money Setup again.
