The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Money, versions 3.0, 3.0a, 5.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

After upgrading from Money version 3.0 to Money version 5.0, you receive 60
to 90 days data downloaded to your account the first time you connect to
your bank. These transaction do not match the transactions in your register
resulting in many duplicate transactions.

CAUSE
=====

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Money version
5.0 when converting from Microsoft Money version 3.0 or 3.0a.

RESOLUTION
==========

There is no way to stop the download from occurring. After merging these
transactions into your account register, you must step through the Account
Register and delete any duplicate transactions.

When merging transactions into your account in the Add To Account Wizard,
add a key word to the memo field of the duplicate transactions. This
assists you in detecting and deleting these transactions later.

STATUS
======

We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

If this occurs again after your first call to download bank statement
information in Money 5.0, or if this occurs after upgrading from Money
version 4.0, please contact Microsoft at (425) 635-7131.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Finding Duplicate Transactions
------------------------------

In Money version 5.0, you merge transactions into your Account Register by
clicking the Read Statement button on the Statements tab in the Home
Banking area. Click Add To Account Register to launch the Add To Account
Register Wizard.

Before starting the Add to Account Wizard after your first call, print an
Account Transactions report for the last three months for each of your
accounts enabled for Online Banking. You can use these reports to determine
if a transaction was previously downloaded into your account. For more
information about how to perform this task in Money, see your Money printed
documentation or online Help.

After printing the reports, open the Add to Account Register Wizard. If
Money presents items that it cannot find in the Account Register, look at
your printed report to see if the transaction is already in your register.
If you detect a duplicate, add a key word to the Memo field, such as
DELETE.

Deleting Duplicate Transactions
-------------------------------

After completing the wizard, follow these steps to delete the duplicates:

1. In the Account Register, click the triangle on the View bar.

2. Select All Transaction Details.

3. Scroll through the register and delete any transactions with the key
   word DELETE in the memo field.

   a. Right-click on the transaction and then click Delete on the shortcut
      menu.

   b. When asked if you want to delete the transaction, click Yes.

   c. Repeat these steps for every duplicate transaction.

NOTE: If you merged the transactions without adding a key word, you must
compare transactions carefully for any duplicates before deleting
transactions.
