SYMPTOMS
========

When you upgrade to the Home Banking Edition of Money 5.0 from a Money 4.0
file enabled for Online Services, Money displays the following dialog box:

   This edition of Microsoft Money will not allow multiple banks to be
   used with Online Services. Please select the bank you would like to
   keep enabled for Online Services.

   All other banks will be disabled and can be re-enabled with the full
   retail release of Microsoft Money 97.

A list box contains a listing of bank names. If you select one account and
click OK, Money displays the following dialog box:

   Are you sure you want to disable all other banks but <bank name> for
   Online Services?

After clicking Yes, Money converts the file.

Refer to the More Information section for additional error messages that
occur after converting the file.

CAUSE
=====

Money attempts to create a bank place for each unique name stored in the
Account Details area of a Money 4.0 data file or the Account List in a
Money 3.0 data file. The Home Banking Edition allows only one online
enabled bank place. If your previous version Money file contains multiple
bank names (such as My Bank and Mybank), the Home Banking Edition cannot
convert the file correctly.

RESOLUTION
==========

At the dialog:

   Are you sure you want to disable all other banks but <bank name> for
   Online Services?

click Cancel.

Open your Money file in the older version of Money. Ensure that all names
in the Bank Name field are identical before converting the file in the Home
Banking Edition of Money 5.0.

WORKAROUND
==========

Disable all Online Services for all accounts at the enabled bank. Then use
Rename Bank on the Contact Information tab to merge the different bank
names.

MORE INFORMATION
================

After converting a file with multiple bank places, each bank place in the
Home Banking area appears to be enabled for the appropriate services. The
Accounts tab lists the correct enabled services for the accounts; however,
if you try to Connect or run the Online Services Setup Wizard for the
account you chose to disable, you receive the following error:

   The Home Banking Edition of Money allows you to set up Online Services
   for one bank only.

   If you'd like to use Online Services with multiple banks, please visit
   your local software retailer and get the full retail release of
   Microsoft Money 97.

If you click Rename Bank on the Contact Information tab of the disabled
bank to rename it to the correct spelling of the bank, you receive the
following error:

   A bank with the name <correct bank name> already exists. You can move
   individual accounts into or out of this bank by going to the Account
   Manager, selecting Account Details, and then changing the bank name
   for each account.

If you attempt to change the Bank Name in the Account Details area to the
correct bank name, you receive the following error:

   You can't change the bank name for this Online Services account
   because a bank already exists with that name. You can change the bank
   name for all accounts at this bank by clicking the Rename Bank button
   in the Home Banking area. Or you can consolidate accounts by changing
   the bank name for any accounts not enabled for Online Services.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Money Home
Banking Edition version 5.0. We are researching this problem and will post
new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.
