"Story about good. Story about bad."
The Neverhood Chronicles is a goal oriented puzzle game. Wake up Klaymen
and explore your world. Go where you want, but you can't get too far
without solving the puzzles. Willie has sent you some hints, available
from the mail room below the nursery.

An Automated Hints/Tips line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

"Me know what to do."
Please close all programs, turn off screen savers, etc. before loading
the disc. A setup screen will appear (that's Willie's picture). If
autorun does not work and the setup screen does not appear, on your
desktop open "My Computer" then double click on your CD-ROM drive, and
double click the setup icon to bring up the setup screen.

Install: Follow the prompts to install the game on your hard drive.
A default directory will be selected for you, but can be changed at the
prompt. Neverhood should install quickly.

Uninstall: Removes all programs files and components from your hard
drive. This includes all saved games, which are saved as reg keys, not
files. Only uninstall if you no longer want the game on your system.
Note: When you remove Neverhood from your hard disk using Add/Remove
Programs in Control Panel, the Neverhood folder will not be removed,
although the contents of the folder will be. To remove the actual folder,
drag it to the Recycle Bin.

Play: Starts the game at the beginning.

Exit: Closes the set-up screen and returns you to the desktop.

Delete Game Let's you remove a saved game. Note: There is no
warning on this function and once a game is deleted
                  it's gone for good.
Music on/Off Removes incidental music from the game but leaves music
for animation scenes and all sound effects.

A few things Willie wants you to know:

"My...this baby packs a wallop."

The Neverhood MUST be installed. It will NOT run from the CD alone.

Do not remove the CD while the game is running. Error message is 'Error
reading CD-ROM.' From the Esc menu, save your game and exit first.

Screen savers including After Dark can end the game if not closed before
game play. (Of course, Willie asked you to turn this off earlier.)

Do not change your monitor resolution during game play. The Neverhood
automatically switches to 640x400 during game play and other adjustments
may cause problems requiring rebooting and restarting play.

Game may not operate with less than 30mg free space on the disk, removing
you from play and returning you to the desktop without warning. Make sure
you have over 30 mg available before starting game play.

Finding your license number: Your product ID # product (also known as the
product ID, PID, or serial number) can be found on the set-up screen.
Insert the CD or launch the application from the DreamWorks folder on the
Start\Programs menu. The product ID # XXXXX-XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXX is located
directly over the Install, Uninstall, Play and Exit buttons on the set-up
screen.

"Sound all stinky bad"

If you don't hear any sound:
Make sure the sound card is pressed securely into its slot.

Make sure the sound card switches and settings are correct-that is, the
sound card was installed properly. Refer to the manual of your computer
system or the sound card manual for help.

Make sure the sound card doesn't conflict with other hardware by using
the Hardware Conflict Troubleshooter that was designed specifically to
help with hardware conflicts in Windows.
1. In Windows, click Start and then click Help.
2. Double-click Troubleshooting.
3. Double-click If you have a hardware conflict and follow the directions
   on your screen.

Sound issues: Verify that your speakers and Windows 95 volume control are
enabled and turned up. Also, be sure that you do not have Music off
selected from the options screen. If sound seems clipped, delayed or
warbling and you are operating with less than the recommended
requirements, a hardware upgrade will solve your sound issues.

ESS1888 sound card: This card does not currently support DirectX 3.0.
If you have this card, please contact your hardware manufacturer for
the latest drivers.

Media Vision: If you have a Media Vision Pro Audio 16 sound card and the
sound is scratchy, the Direct Memory Access (DMA) may be set too low. A
DMA setting of 7 will correct any scratchy sounds. For instructions on
how to change the DMA settings, refer to your sound card manual.

"I think you broke the lake, but I won't tell."

Having problems with your CD-ROM drive. Check the drive itself:
Make sure the The Neverhood CD-ROM disc is inserted into the CD-ROM
drive. (The Neverhood won't run at all unless the disc is in the drive.)

Make sure that the drive is connected to your computer correctly and is
functioning from Windows. To find out, double-click My Computer on the
desktop and then double-click the drive with a picture of the CD-ROM disc
(usually drive D). Windows will tell you if it's "not available."

For an external CD-ROM drive, make sure the power is turned on.

If, after you try these three things, The Neverhood still tells you it
can't find data, check to see if your CD-ROM drive is installed properly.
Refer to the manual that came with your computer system or CD-ROM drive
for help, or contact the company that supplied the drive.

Intellipoint: If you're using Intellipoint software with your Microsoft

the screen when you do certain things in the Neverhood. To fix, turn off
the 'Snap to' feature following these steps:

5. Click OK.
If you don't have the necessary 256-color driver, or if you aren't sure
that your video card supports 256 colors, contact your video card
manufacturer.

3-D Accelerated Video Cards: If you have a 3-D accelerated video card and
you receive an error message saying that your display adapter is missing
features when you select Use Hardware Accelerator on the Graphics tab in
the Settings dialog box, you need to obtain the latest driver from your
hardware manufacturer. To continue playing without an updated driver,
clear the Use Hardware Accelerator check box.
