Transferring a File From Works for Windows to Works for the Macintosh
---------------------------------------------------------------------
 
To transfer a Database file from Works for Windows to Works for the Macintosh do
the following:
 
1. Open your database in Works for Windows.
 
2. On the File menu, click Save As.
 
3. Type a new name for the document.
 
4. From the Save As Type drop down list, choose either Works DB or Text &
   Tabs.
 
5. Click Save.
 
6. Transfer the file to the Macintosh hard drive.
 
7. Open Works for the Macintosh.
 
8. At the Startup dialog, click Existing Documents and then click OK.
 
9. At the Open Document dialog, click the Database icon.
 
10. In the File Format list box, click All Available.
 
11. Locate the file you saved in step 3 and click Open.
 
NOTE: While the document is converting, you may receive two alert boxes. When the
first alert requests you to open a text file, click OK; when the second alert
tells you how the database is to be separated, click OK.
 
Transferring Files From Works for the Macintosh to Works for Windows
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 
To transfer a Database file from Works for the Macintosh to Works for Windows, do
the following:
 
1. Open the Database in Works for the Macintosh.
 
2. On the File menu, click Save As.
 
3. Type a new name for the document.
 
4. From the File Format list box, choose one of the following:
 
    - Normal
    - Works for DOS 2.0
    - Works for DOS 3.0
    - Comma Values DB
    - Text
    - Works for Windows 3.0
 
5. Click Save.
 
6. Transfer the file to a MS-DOS formatted disk.
 
7. Open Works for Windows.
 
8. Click the Existing Documents tab.
 
9. Click Open A Document Not Listed Here.
 
10. In the Files Of Type list box, click All Files (*.*).
 
11. Locate and open the file you saved in step 3 above.
 
NOTE: When transferring database files between Works for Windows and Works for
the Macintosh, the following will occur:
 
 - The field names may default to "Untitled Field 1" or "Field 1". You will need
   to rename each field.
 - All reports will need to be recreated.
 - All forms will need to be recreated.
 - All graphics will be removed during the conversion.
 - Some formulas may not convert. You may need to re-enter formulas.
