The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Macintosh, versions 3.0, 4.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

During a slide show in PowerPoint, a blank menu bar may appear at the
top of the screen. This occurs when PowerPoint finishes an
activity. For example, it appears after each build or when an
embedded movie is done.

This may occur if you are running Timbuktu on your computer.

CAUSE
=====

Timbuktu is a network communication package by Farallon. It enables you to
connect to another Macintosh and observe or interact with applications
running on the remote machine. Multiple users can use Timbuktu to view a
presentation on one Macintosh. If one of the users disconnects or closes
their session, it causes a blank menu bar to appear at the top of the
screen.

RESOLUTION
==========

There are two ways to stop the bar from appearing.

   If the user rejoins the conference, the menu bar disappears.

   -or-

   Stop the presentation and click Clear Previous Users from the menu.
