When you attempt to install the latest MS-DOS NDIS driver for the Compaq PCNet PCI Ethernet Adapter, you may get the following error:
Cannot read from file PCNTND.DOS, Error code 3
The error is caused by a typo in the Pcntnd.nif file found in the
A:\CPQNET\MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\NIF directory.
The example below illustrates how the file should read to work correctly:
Model = PCNet Family Ethernet Adapter Path = ETHERNET\NDIS DeviceDriver = PCNTND.DOS DeviceName = PCNTND Type = NDIS XPorts = NETBEUIThe change is made to the "Path" line which, from Compaq, incorrectly reads: ETHERNET\PCNTND.
