SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to access the custom dictionary from Microsoft
PowerPoint 4.0, you may notice the following behavior:

 - You are unable to add new words to the dictionary.

 - The Add button in the Spelling dialog box is unavailable.

 - PowerPoint does not correct words entered into the Custom Dictionary.

RESOLUTION
==========

NOTE: The following steps assume you have Microsoft Word 6.x on your
computer.

1. In Word, open the custom dictionary you want to use with PowerPoint.

2. Create a new Word document.

3. Copy and then paste the contents of the custom dictionary into the
   new Word document.

4. Use the following steps to save your custom dictionary:

   a. On the Tools menu, click Options.

   b. Click the Spelling tab.

   c. Click the New button in the custom dictionary section. You
      should be prompted to save the dictionary.

5. Save the custom dictionary in the Microsoft folder. PowerPoint looks
   in the Microsoft folder to find its custom dictionary.

   Note: You will not be able to save the dictionary in the Microsoft
   folder if a file named Custom Dictionary already resides there.

The custom dictionary should now be available from PowerPoint.
