Event Details Does Not Display and SMS Admin UI GPFs

Article ID: Q153553

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Systems Management Server versions 1.0 and 1.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you delete the Identification group class with Dbclean.exe, the Event
details do not display and the SMS Admin UI has a general protection fault
(GPF).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
===================

1. In dbclean, select tools and select delete group classes.

2. Select personal computer, and click OK.

3. Select identification, and click OK.

Try to display the details for an SMS event in the SMS administrator UI
console.

RESOLUTION
==========

Run the following from ISQLW:

   update PropertyDisplayPanes set
   MethodString1 = "eventdll.dll",
   Method = 3
   where Architecture = "SMSEvent"
   and Name= "Identification"

MORE INFORMATION
================

This is caused by a bug in DBCLEAN, where when you delete any
Identification group, it deletes all Identification Display Pane entries
for all architectures. Although the next data loader cycle attempts to re-
create any 'missing' panes, it creates them all as the default
'Identification' groups. When the UI attempts to open an Event for viewing,
the dll is not loaded as expected, thus causing the GPF.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server
version 1.1. This problem has been corrected in Systems Management Server
version 1.2.
