The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 4.0a, and 4.0b
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to insert an object from the Insert menu, you may
receive the following error message:

   Cannot Insert Object.
   Possibly you are out of memory, or the registration for the
   source application is not correct. Try choosing other
   applications. If that does not work, try reinstalling the
   source application.

RESOLUTION
==========

This error occurs if you attempt to insert a Works document (such as a
word processor, database, or spreadsheet document). Select a document
that was not created in Works for the Macintosh (such as a Microsoft
Word or Microsoft Excel document) to insert as an object.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Works for the Macintosh is not an OLE server. Documents created in Works
are not designed to be inserted into each other. The same error message
appears if you try to insert a Works 2.0 or 3.0 document.
