SUMMARY
=======

Works for the Macintosh has no built-in command for shading a cell. This
article describes how to manually shade a cell.

MORE INFORMATION
================

To create a shaded cell, try the following steps:

1. Use the Square tool to draw a box. Size the box to cover the cell(s)
   to be shaded.

2. On the Fill Pattern menu, click a color or shade of gray.

3. Use the Text tool to create an object to contain the contents for the
   cell. Type the appropriate information in the text object.

4. Drag the text object on top of the shaded object.

5. Click both objects to group them if you want.

6. Move the grouped object, or both objects separately, to the appropriate
   location on the spreadsheet.

This method creates a shaded area for a cell or block of cells. However,
any information already in the cell(s) does not show through the objects
covering the cell(s). If a cell underneath a shaded object is empty, any
formula referring to that cell may return an incorrect result.
