I. Short introduction.

XLANChat Pro is a Linux version of LANChat Pro v2.x for Windows 95/98/NT. It
supports only basic commands for now, but it allows you to chat over different
operating systems. XLCP works also standalone - without Windows machines and
can cooperate with the console Linux LANChat v1.0.1 by Melun <melun@friko2.onet.pl>.
This is the first beta release and IT HASN'T BEEN TESTED YET so please feel
free to report any bugs to lanchat@poczta.onet.pl

For those who don't know the original Windows version: LANChat Pro is a local
area network chatting application. It support many home-network useful options,
like private chatting and away modes. Full documentation can be found on the
 LANChat homepage.

II. Installation.

This is a binary compiled pacakge. Just try to run it. If it doesn't want to
run check your KDE and Qt libraries installation.

III. Running.

To run XLANChat Pro just execute xlanchat binary file. Your nickname will be
taken from your login and the color is for now constant (no matter to you, but
matter to Windows users :). Very often after runung LANChat you can't see any
network messages or you see only yourself. To help that type in bash prompt:

     route add default gw <yourip>

 for example:

     route add default ge 192.168.0.7

This should help. All XLANChat messages are logged to \logs subdirectory, so
 make sure you have it.

IV. Commands.

Most commands (type /help to get summary) are easy to discover, except one,
I think. For now, private messaging is a little bit weird but, believe me, much
faster than old method. To send a private message to someone you must know his
number - to list users and their numbers type /numbers. When you know the number
user the private message command: %<number> text, for example: %3 hello. If you
want to send another private message to that user you don't have to type
/msg "Mark" how are you ? - just type %3 how are you ?

V. Support and new versions.

New versions - yes, they will be for sure. Just give me a little time to get
familiar with Linux programming environment. You will always be able to get the
newest version at http://republika.pl/lanchat; troubleshooting and bug reports
 please send to lanchat@poczta.onet.pl

Hope hearing from you soon,
Peter
