Installation:

Simply run the setup/install from the directory
you extracted the '.ZIP' file to. Fallow the prompts and
then you are in!

Once in QE you will have to goto Setup on the
menu bar. Then select setup directories. Now browse till
you locate your copy of HOMEWORLD.EXE
*see note #1*. Now select ok and you should get a
confirmation meage. You are now ready to use QE.

Loading a unit:

First you must select a fleet name from the
dropdown box and push Load Fleet. Now the unit
types should have loaded, select one and push Load
Unit. You will now see that Unit Topic is enabled.
Use it's combo box to select a topic/componant of
the unit you are interested in then push Get Items.
You will now see a progress bar at the bottom of
the screen. It may take some time for it to load and
process the topic. You should now see all the items
that belong to that topic displayed in the edit
chanells.

Command Line:

The commandline is very simple. You have
to specifiy what fleet # (Kushan = 0, Tiidan = 1,....... if
more fleets are avalible.) and unit name you think it is.
If you omit the fleet # and unit name you cant even view it!

The unit name is important as the file name and
unit name are not allwase the same.

This will allow you to cerate shorcuts to your
favorite units in a folder or right on your desktop!

Example Commandline :
Quick_Edit.exe C:\SomeDir\MyMod\mine.shp 1 Mine

Editing / Changing a channell:

Simply click on the item name in the
channel. That channel will now glow green while it
is in focus. You can edit the value by hand right
there or check to see if the Quick Value box has any
choices. If you were watching you saw the Item
Description window add the original value. Now go
edit up a storm!

Saving:

You cannot save untill a item channel has
at least been selected.*see note #2* After selecting the
item you should see more menu options avalible. The
quick save will now be enabled too.

The quick save , saves directly to the current
copy of the file. You can use the menu option to save too.

The menu option save as will let you export to
any file type you like.

Changing The INI:

The QE_Strings.ini contains all the unit and
item string search info. You can edit it very in WORDPAD
preferably to NOTEPAD , as WORDPAD can display the
file properly columated. This is very important as there is
items and sub classes that have colum specific values.
    Fleets:

The fleet names are must be accompanied by a
the directory name if different form parrent.

[Fleet Names]
2
Kushan R1
Taiidan R2

To add a fleet name :
[Fleet Names]
3
Kushan R1
Taiidan R2
Name Dir

Do you see it? Simple eh! the not simple part is if
the fleet has a compleetly different ship classes!

This is due to the way I handled the unit ownership.
The owner ship is set by the value at the end of the unit
name line. ex:

Cloked Fighter 1 - can only be seen by fleet #1.
Attack Bomber 0 - can be seen by all!
Defence Fighter 2 - can unly be seen by fleet #2.

The Value determines what fleets can see this unit
in the unit selection drop down box. The numbers are
taken from the order the fleets are listed in the
[Fleet Names] section. If you add a new Fleet then you will
have to be sure all the common unit are still 0 and that you
may now have to duplicate some unit names and set thier
values like so:

Cloked Fighter 1 - can only be seen by fleet #1.
Attack Bomber 1 - can only be seen by fleet #1.
Attack Bomber 2 - can unly be seen by fleet #2.
Defence Fighter 2 - can unly be seen by fleet #2.
Berzerk Fighter 3 - can only be seen by fleet #3.
Probe 0 - can be seen by all!

This way you have protected QE from opening
a worng unit type for the selected fleet!

   Unit sub classes:

Sample A

[Attack Bomber]
5
File AttackBomber.shp
Ship Basic 1
Basic Motion 1
<>--------------------<>
-NUMBER_OF_GUNS 2
+Gun Bomber 0
+Gun Bomber 1

That is a simple unit that all sides share 2 guns of type
Gun Bomber . It is rather simple to see the layout but
if you want to have the same unit owned but 2 or more
fleets then you have to do this

[Attack Bomber]
5
File AttackBomber.shp
Ship Basic 1
Basic Motion 1
<>--------------------<>
-NUMBER_OF_GUNS 0AABB
+AA 2
+Gun Bomber 0
+Gun Bomber 1

+BB 2
+Gun Bomber 0
+Gun Bomber 1

+End sub class

Do you see how the sub classes are defined and named?
The AA and BB acn be any 2 characters other than
numbers. Ie: AA , AB , BB , BC , CC are ok but this is
wrong! Ie: A1 , B2 .. Get it!

Note the sub class for weapons must start with a
"Gun" as the first 3 characters. The regular sub class will
accept any item topic as long as it has a "+" infront of it.

If you are going to make differnt hulls using sub classes
then be sure to move the unit to the ...
"Complex Hull section"

	Check web page for updates!
