Dear jinnee-user,

This is version 2.5 of jinnee.

You can find a description of the changes in version 2.5 in the
hypertext for jinnee under "What is new in this version" right on the
opening page.

jinnee is present in German, English and French on the floppy disks.
In the SETUP installation program you can choose which language of
jinnee is to be installed. The programs in the EXTRAS folder are
currently only present in German.

The installation program has attempted to save you as much work as
possible. So it has copied the hypertext, for instance, straight to
the GUIDES folder on C:, if such a one was present there.

Equally it has installed jinnee as the new desktop in MAGX.INF and as
an AVSERVER.

If you wish to use the plugins for the context menus, then you need ASH's
Scripter, available separately. For reasons of space, not all the packer
programs are present on the disk. If you require the complete package,
ypou can download this from the Internet or our mailbox.

If you have obtained jinnee as an update from version 1.0, then after
the installation you can delete the RSC directory in the jinnee folder,
as the icon files are now contained in the ICONS or MONOICON folder.
Before you delete the RSC folder, you should check, of course, whether
you have copied any of your own RSC files into it; if so, copy these into
the ICONS folder before deletion.

In the JINNEE\EXTRAS folder you will find further useful programs that go
well with jinnee, such as StartMeUp, the search program SuJi or Appline.

Also new is the JINNEE\EXTRAS\M_TUULS folder. You can find some
interesting extension programs for your computer there, such as tear-off
menus and keyboard shortcuts for the menus, which are application-
independent.
Please note that some of the additional programs require TRAPPER.PRG to
have been installed in the AUTO folder. This is done automatically by
the SETUP program.

In the FONTS folder you will find some pretty proportional GEM bitmap
fonts that you can copy into the GEMSYS folder and install in the
ASSIGN.SYS file. They are based on the Geneva font.

If a program has problems with proportional system fonts under MagiC!6
and hangs when it is launched, then you can install it in jinnee as an
application and deactivate the "Prop. font" switch.

In the JINNEE folder you will find two palette files, JINNEE.PAL and
ALTERNAT.PAL.
ALTERNAT.PAL is a palette in which the first 16 system colours are
again "correctly" red, green, blue etc. Otherwise it corresponds to the
NVDI palette, i.e. otherwise one can not see a difference and it contains
exactly the same colours (only in a slightly different sort order - so
that one does not notice it - due to the first 16 colours).

If you wish to use the old system colours, delete JINNEE.PAL and rename
ALTERNAT.PAL to JINNEE.PAL.

Desktop background:
===================
The folder JINNEE\IMG\DESKIMG contains two IMG files that permit you
to use the jinnee logo as a desktop background. To use it, click on
"Special>Settings...>Background: Desktop". For "Pic" select the
file JINNEE1.IMG, JINNEE4.IMG or JINNEE8.IMG (for 2, 16 and 256-colour
modes respectively), and for "Mask" select JINMASK.IMG.
In the "Graphic mode" popup select "Special transparent".

Further notes:
==============
If you wish to copy in threads with jinnee, then you need at least
version 5.13 of MagiC. This version is present in the ASH mailbox in the
corresponding group for downloading free of charge if you already have
MagiC 5.1, MagiC Mac 2.1 or MagiC PC 1.2.

Owners of older versions have to order an update.

GEMScript:
==========
You can get the Scripter program from ASH. In the file JIN_GSCR.TXT
you will see an overview of the GEMScript commands that jinnee
understands.

We wish you a lot of joy with jinnee.
