Viewing Quorum Device Status and Information

To display detailed quorum information for a cluster, choose a device name from either the Quorum section in the navigation frame in SunPlex Manager or the Cluster Quorum Votes table.

The Quorum Device Properties table appears. This table contains the following information.

Property Description
Current Status Describes whether the device is running in cluster mode.
Quorum Device Name The disk path to a quorum device.
Possible Votes The number of possible quorum votes that the device can contribute.

This number is calculated by totaling the votes for the enabled hosts to which the device is attached and subtracting 1. For example, if a device is attached to an enabled host with one quorum vote, and a second enabled host is attached with two quorum votes, the device has a possible quorum vote of 1 + 2 - 1 = 2. Disabled hosts do not contribute to the total votes.

Present Votes The number of quorum votes the device is currently contributing.
Enabled Whether or not the device is configured so it can contribute quorum votes.
Hosts (Enabled) The name or names of the enabled host or hosts the device is attached to. These enabled hosts determine the possible number of quorum votes a device can contribute.

The number of quorum votes that are assigned to a device is calculated by totaling the votes for the enabled hosts to which the device is attached, and subtracting 1. For example, if a device is attached to an enabled host with 1 quorum vote, and a second enabled host with 2 quorum votes, the device would have a possible quorum vote of 1 + 2 - 1 = 2.

For the quorum votes that are allocated to each host, see the Quorum Votes table.

Hosts (Disabled) The name or names of the disabled host or hosts to which the device is attached. The quorum votes for these hosts are not used to determine their device's possible votes.

Putting a Device Into Maintenance State

Putting a device into maintenance state sets its quorum count to zero. You might want to put a quorum device into maintenance state when you remove the quorum device from service for an extended period of time. Thus, the device does not contribute to the quorum count while the device is being serviced.

To put a device in maintenance state, complete the following steps:

  1. From the navigation frame in SunPlex Manager, choose Quorum or a quorum device from the Quorum section.

    The Quorum Device window appears.

  2. From the Action Menu, choose Put in Maintenance State.

A task window appears. This window prompts you to provide additional information.

  3. From the Quorum Device menu, choose a device.

  4. Click Maintain Quorum Device.

SunPlex Manager displays a confirmation message, including the command that is used to complete the task. Write down or copy this command for future use in scripts and other automated tasks.

SunPlex Manager cannot put an entire cluster node into maintenance state. Related Topics provides additional information.

Adding a Quorum Device

To add a quorum device, complete the following steps:
  1. From the navigation frame in SunPlex Manager, choose Quorum or a quorum device from the Quorum section.

    The Quorum Device window appears.

  2. From the Action Menu, choose Add Quorum Device.

A task window appears. This window prompts you to provide additional information.

  3. From the New Quorum Device menu, choose a device name.

This menu lists all of the available global devices in the cluster that have not been configured as quorum devices.

SunPlex Manager provides connectivity information for the new quorum device.

  4. Click Add Quorum Device.

SunPlex Manager displays a confirmation message, including the command that is used to complete the task. Write down or copy this command for future use in scripts and other automated tasks.

Resetting a Quorum Device

You might need to reset the quorum configuration if a quorum-related command (such as scconf) is interrupted or fails. If this happens, the quorum configuration information can become inconsistent in the cluster configuration database. You also need to reset a quorum device if it was put in maintenance state and now needs to participate in the quorum vote.

Resetting a quorum device resets the votes of the quorum device to the default value.

To reset the quorum configuration for a particular node, complete the following steps:

  1. From the navigation frame in SunPlex Manager, choose Quorum or a quorum device from the Quorum section.

    The Quorum Device window appears.

  2. From the Action Menu, choose Reset Quorum Device.

A task window appears. This window prompts you to provide additional information.

  3. From the Quorum Device menu, choose a device.

  4. Click Reset Quorum Device.

SunPlex Manager displays a confirmation message, including the command that is used to complete the task. Write down or copy this command for future use in scripts and other automated tasks.

Removing a Quorum Device

When a quorum device is removed, that quorum device no longer participates in the voting to establish quorum.

Warning All two-node clusters that require at least one quorum device be configured. SunPlex Manager does not remove the last device from the configuration.

To remove a quorum device, complete the following steps:

  1. From the navigation frame in SunPlex Manager, choose Quorum or a quorum device from the Quorum section.

    The Quorum Device window appears.

  2. From the Action Menu, choose Remove Quorum Device.

A task window appears. This window prompts you to provide additional information.

  3. From the Quorum Device menu, choose a device.

  4. Click Remove Quorum Device.

SunPlex Manager displays a confirmation message, including the command that is used to complete the task. Write down or copy this command for future use in scripts and other automated tasks.
