AccessSet Help
--------------

Please note that this version of AccessSet is now RISC OS Select
compatible.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE ACCESSSET IS RUNNING ALL SHARES ON THE LOCAL
MACHINE WILL BE DISABLED. WHEN ACCESSET IS QUIT ALL THE LOCAL SHARES
WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO OTHER MACHINES ON THE NETWORK.

AccessSet works using Acorn Access, this must be running on any
machines on the network. To see if Access is running look for a
"Discs" icon on your icon bar.

AccessSet allows you to easily specify which folders on your machine
can be seem by other computers running RISC OS Access on your
network.

Where is the shared folder list stored
--------------------------------------

The list of shared folders is stored in the following location

             !Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks.AccessSet

Under no circumstances should you manually edit this file, although
you can delete it if you want to get rid of all the shared
folders so that no other user can see any folders on your
machine.

Viewing existing shared folders
-------------------------------
You can see a list of all the shared folders by clicking on the
MENU button in the AccessSet window. Clicking on a folder name
in this menu will select it.

Deleting an existing shared folder
----------------------------------
Select the folder you want to delete from the list and click
on the "Remove this folder from the shared list" button. You
will be asked if you are sure. Click "Continue" to delete
the folder from the list. (Note that this will not
delete the folder from your hard disc, it will simply prevent
other users on the network from seeing it).

Adding a new folder
-------------------
Add a new folder to the list of shared folders by dragging it from
a filer window and dropping it on the AccessSet window. Any new
folder will be added as "Read only" by default. The name of
the new folder will appear in the AccessSet window.

You can also specify if you want this new folder to be shared
under a specific name by selecting the "Share under this name"
option, typing in the name you require and pressing RETURN.

Changing the access type
------------------------
Simply click on the type of sharing you want the folder to have,
normally we recommend sharing most folders as "Read only", this
will prevent other users from deleting the contents of the
folder.

NOTE THAT WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU SHARE ANY ROOT DIRECTORY
FOLDERS ON YOUR HARD DISC UNPROTECTED APART FROM THE PUBLIC
FOLDER.

The full list of access types is as follows:

Unprotected - Users can read, write and DELETE your files
ReadOnly - Users can see and read the contents of the folder
but cannot write to it or alter any of the files
Protected - Users can only see folders and files that have
"Public" read access set from the filer menu.
Note that in order to share a folder as Protected
the folder itself must have "Public" access set.

Sharing a root harddrive
------------------------
You can share a root harddrive (ALTHOUGH WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS)
by dragging a folder from the drive in question to the AccessSet
window and then deleting the trailing part of the name, for example:

HostFS::HardDisc4.$.Public

could be shortened to

HostFS::HardDisc4.$

to share the root of the drive. Having alterred the name press
RETURN twice.

Quitting without saving changes
-------------------------------
To quit without saving the changes simply press MENU over
the AccessSet window and click on Quit.

Quitting and saving changes
---------------------------
To quit and save your changes click on the "Update Shared
Folders and Exit" button. Your new shared folders will be saved
and will become available in a few seconds.
