                   Software from Fortran Friends

Fortran Friends started as a self-help support group of users of the
programming language Fortran on Acorn computers to collect useful routines
into libraries available in the PD. More recently some of us have written
utilities to enable Fortran programmers to call system routines easily from
their programs and a Front End to simplify use of the Fortran compiler
from the desktop. We have also implemented the graphics plotting package
PGPLOT, and the molecule drawing program ORTEP III on the Acorn range of
computers. These are available from the Fortran Friends web site as follows:

the Fortran Friends Front End and libraries:
http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/fortran/Demos/Ff1.zip

the graphics plotting package PGPLOT:
http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/fortran/Demos/PGplot.zip

and the molecule drawing program ORTEP III
http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/fortran/Demos/Ortep.zip

The Fortran compiler may be bought from Intelligent Interfaces at:
http://www.intint.demon.co.uk

We have also written application programs using the Fortran libraries.

We are always happy to receive suggestions for additional programs or
improvements to existing ones. Please contact us at any time at the address
at the end of this file.

  !Lazyprint (shareware)
prints text and Draw files on Hewlett Packard printers using the HPGL
and PCL languages. A recent version is on the Archive monthly disc:
vol 10 issue 11. The program is reviewed in that issue. Registration costs
10; for this you get the latest version of the program and we try to fix
your problems and think about implementing your requested enhancements.

 ---------------- Polyhedron plotting programs ----------------------------

!PolyDraw

interactive exploration of polyhedra from any one of over 140 data files
supplied. These consist of all the Platonic and Archimedean Solids and their
duals, together with the Kepler Poinsot and Johnson polyhedra, and some
prisms and antiprisms. Each polyhedron can be seen simultaneously in two
windows, as a 3D solid and as a planar net, both of which may be saved as a
Draw file and incorporated in the users own documents.

!PolyNet

interactive creation of a planar net from a polyhedron data file.
There are 33 data files supplied, including all the Platonic and Archimedean
Solids and their duals, (identical to those supplied with !PolyDraw). The
net may be saved, with or without tabs, to a Draw file. The faces can be
coloured and decorated with the users clip art before printing the net,
cutting it out and making it into a 3D model.

Extra Data Disks (may be used in either !PolyDraw or !PolyNet)

All have a set of Draw files showing all the polyhedra on A4 size pages

   Disk 1
The duals of the Johnson Solids (92 files + 92 revised Johnson solids),
       created by Paul Gailiunas.

   Disk 2
Stellations, compounds, space fillers, mostly created by G.Inchbald
with some from Fortran Friends (76 data files).

   Disk 3
The 59 Icosahedra; in addition to the Polydata for PolyDraw/Polynet,
this disk contains the !Stellate data file and some explanation of the
naming scheme as defined in the booklet The Fifty-Nine Icosahedra
by Coxeter et al. and drawfiles showing all 59 stellations.
Special offer: with this disk you have an option to buy a copy of
the 3rd edition of the booklet, published January 1999.

   Disk 4
The non-convex uniform polyhedra and their duals (53 of each).

!Stellate

interactive creation of uniform polyhedra their stellations, duals and
other polyhedra which can be made from up from 4 components using stellation
diagrams and stored inter-planar angles. The resulting polyhedra may be
saved in several formats, for later use in !Draw, !Stellate, !PolyDraw or
!PolyNet. Versions 3.05 and 1.09 (or greater) of PolyDraw and PolyNet are
needed to read the more complicated polyhedra from Stellate.

Demo versions of all applications are available from our web site. These
have only a few example data files, no other data files can be loaded into
them, or any file saved from them, but you can try all the features on the
screen.

------------------------------In preparation:-------------------------------

More polyhedra data files for use with !PolyDraw or !PolyNet; let us know
what you want; we are making more stellations and ones from Wenningers book.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

 PRICES

We sell the polyhedra plotting programs for 20 each, with a discount of
5 per program for all subsequent programs bought at the same time.

Price for any one of !PolyDraw, !PolyNet, !Stellate 20
Price for two usually !PolyDraw and !PolyNet 35
Price for all three (!Stellate, !PolyDraw, !PolyNet) 50

The additional data disks are 10 per disc of about 100 polyhedra and the
set of A4 pages of draw files showing all the polyhedra collected together.
We also offer a copy of the 3rd edition of The Fifty-Nine Icosahedra
for an additional 5 (Tarquin price 6.95) with data disk 3 (15 total).

Postage and packing are included for destinations in the UK. Please add 1
for postage to European Union countries and 2 elsewhere.

Updates: Return your original disc with 2 to receive the latest version;
3 for users outside the UK.

We normally distribute one program per double density disc in the UK; we can
get two programs on a single high density disc, which saves us postage.
Please let us know if you cannot read high density (HD) discs when you send
your order.
