Now EXAMINE source 1 and 2.

The sources are taken from the Bayeux Tapestry
and show two Norman castles.

Task 1
------

Imagine you are writing to a friend in England
telling them about the Norman castles. DESCRIBE
what the castles look like, including what they
are made of.

Task 2
------

Put the following labels on to the sources :

STOCKADE; HILL (called a motte); TOWER (called a
keep); BRIDGE OR DRAWBRIDGE.
      
EXAMINE sources 3 and 4.

Task 3
------ 

DESCRIBE what sources 3 and 4 show you.

NOTE : the building in the middle of the mound
in source 3 was built in the 14th century.


Task 4
------

COMPARE sources 1 and 3.

Are there any similarities between the sources ?
Is there anything in source 3 that might compare
to something in source 1 ?


Task 5
------

READ source 5.


Task 6
------

Using the sources, DRAW a MOTTE AND BAILEY CASTLE.

OR...........

Using the sources, reconstruct what source 3
might have looked like just after the Norman
Invasion.

You can use source 3, along with PAINT, to carry
out this RECONSTRUCTION.
