to study castles/castle building, etc. in STUDY
UNIT 5 - LOCAL HISTORY.

Pupils should be taught about an aspect of local
history. This should be one of the following :

- (The area relevant to castle study is b) -

"An aspect of the local community during a
short period of time or the local community's
involvement in a particular event,

eg the impact of the Norman Conquest on a local
   area.

At Key Stage 3, Study Unit 1, Medieval Realms :
Britain 1066 to 1500, would cover the castle
study.

Pupils should be taught :

4) Historical Enquiry -

a) to investigate independently aspects of the
periods studied, using a range of sources of
information, including documents and printed 
sources, artefacts, pictures, photographs and 
films, music and oral accounts, buildings and
sites;

b) to ask and answer significant questions,to
evaluate sources in their historical context,
identify sources for an investigation, collect
and record information relevant to a topic
and reach conclusions.
