Dictionary pronuncation guide
-----------------------------

The main dictionary supplied gives (American) pronunciation guides for the
words contained within it. The guide for each word is placed between "\"
characters.

The guide seperates syllables by the "-" character, and a "'" character
means emphasise the following syllable/letter.

Vowel sounds are according to the following table :

  a as in fAt
  a_ as in bAy
a_: as in fAr (also (American) as in gOt - don't ask)

  e as in mEt
  e_ as in mEEt

  i as in bIt
  i_ as in bIte

  o_ as in pOrt
  o_. as in bOil

  * as in dug (also (American) as in fUr - don't ask)
  u_. as in bOOk
  u_: as in bOOt

There may be others, but an extensive list is not really very useful, as the
guides are American pronunciations in any case.
