AutoMode ReadME File
--------------------

AutoMode is a small application designed to make "non-standard" sized
screen mode definition files. Many computers now come with TFT
panels that have odd widescreen sizes. Although VirtualAcorn products
come with support for a wide range of screen resolutions manufacturers
are continually updating their products to include different
resolutions. AutoMode allows a user to quickly make a screen mode
for RISC OS that exactly matches the resolution of your screen.

What's my screen resolution
---------------------------

You can find the resolution of your screen by switching to Windows.
Now Right Click on a blank part of the Windows backdrop. Go down
to "Properties" and click on this. The display properties window
will open. Click on the Settings tab and your monitor resolution
will be displayed.

Warning
-------

This program only generates screen modes suitable for use with
VirtualRPC. The modes generated are not suitable for use on a
"real" RISC OS machine. Attempts to use screen modes created by
AutoMode on a "real" machine could result in damage to your
monitor or to your computer. 3QD Developments Ltd will not be
held responsible for any loss or damage caused by using the
screen modes produced by AutoMode.

Using AutoMode
--------------

Note that AutoMode supports Interactive Help. For help on each
icon/button load Interactive Help from the Apps folder on the
iconbar.

AutoMode greatly simplifies the construction of screen modes.
All you, the user, needs to do is load AutoMode. Type in the
horizontal and vertical resolution you require and click on
the "Save updated MDF" button.

AutoMode will scan the VirtualAcorn MDF and see if the screen
mode already exists. If it does AutoMode will not continue.

If the screen mode doesn't exist it will be created. Up to
four versions of the screen mode can be created with 4 different
refresh rates. Radio buttons control which frame rates are
created.

Once the screen mode has been generated an updated MDF will be
saved and the new modes will become instantly available from the
Display Manager icon on the iconbar.

You can now test the mode and them quit AutoMode.
