This page describes DEC VMS file names and file syntax, especially as
contrasted to UNIX file naming conventions.
VMS File
Names and Syntax
You must use VMS naming conventions in all ViewStation entries
specific to the VMS host, such as path names, configuration file
entries, etc.
VMS file names are specified with period
separators, as in these examples. The "disk$pack:" designates the disk
device on the VMS system.
Unix syntax:
/fonthost/hds-fx/fonts/misc
VMS syntax:
/fonthost/disk$pack:[hds-fx.fonts.misc]
Examples for the configuration file:
Unix syntax:
/FXUtilities/hds-fx/config/config-fx
VMS syntax:
/FXUtilities/[hds-fx.config]config.fx
The HDSware tape in VMS format already has these changes made
in the configuration files.
