This page describes booting a
ViewStation which has an internal hard disk drive.
For
Internal Booting and File Service
With the internal hard disk
drive, the ViewStation boots and loads its files from the disk. It
accesses the disk as if it were a network device, but uses the IP
loopback address (127.0.0.1) and the directory path of /dev/flash as its
HDSware location. Local clients, fonts, etc. are read directly from the
disk.
These settings are made at the factory, so all the user
has to do is turn on the ViewStation and all the software is immediately
available. ViewStations with a hard disk installed should use the
special configuration file /HDSware/hds-fx/config/config.fx.dsk.
Troubleshooting Hard Disk Booting
If you are
installing a new hard disk, or if your ViewStation was reset to factory
defaults, you need to change your settings to use the hard disk drive.
From Monitor Mode, enter the ViewStation's IP address and the
hard disk configuration file:
ip nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
cf /dev/flash/hds-fx/config/config.fx.dsk
These two
settings are sufficient to boot the ViewStation. Do not use the hh and
hd fields.
