This page describes the ViewStation's Developer's Kit.

ViewStation Developer's Kit Overview
HDS's Developer Kit allows users to compile their application
program source code to run on the ViewStation's i960 processor as a
local client. The Developer Kit allows you to create the executable
file for inclusion in the HDSware software.
HDS ViewStation Architecture
The HDS ViewStation uses a powerful RISC processor, the Intel
960, and an internal Unix micro-kernel architecture that make it
possible to run a number of client application programs on the
ViewStation. This offers the ViewStation user several important
advantages:
Customization of client applications
Distribution
of processing load to ViewStations on the network
Conservation of
host memory and CPU resources
Conservation of network bandwidth
Improved response and control for the user
The ViewStation Developer's Kit contains tools that let you
prepare client applications to run on the ViewStation. It consists of
two tapes containing the tools, libraries, compilers, and sample files
you need to work.
Developer's Kit Contents
The Developer's Kit consists of two parts, the GNU tools and
the HDS libraries.
GNU Tools
The HDS ViewStation Developer's Kit
consists of a set of GNU tools (v2.0.1) for software development and
debugging and a cross-compiler for the Intel 960. The GNU tools are
public domain tools and the Intel compiler is distributed under license
from Intel; both are available on a QIC150 tape. HDS currently supports
them in the Sun environment, though they are available on other
platforms. If you use another platform, the tools should be correctly
installed and operational before you start; consult with HDS if you have
any questions.
HDS Libraries
The Developer's Kit also contains various libraries and include
files needed for the compilation; these include the standard X11
libraries, the Xt Intrinsics and Xm Motif libraries, a Unix compatible
C library and a floating point library. These are currently X11R5
libraries and Motif 1.2.3 versions.
There are also sample client files and other examples,
including sample makefiles.
The ViewStation uses standard X libraries and the Motif
toolkit. These are integral parts of the ViewStation server code. Most
system calls and procedures are supported so compilation should proceed
with no problems. If you have problems with the compilation, especially
because of missing libraries, etc. you should contact HDS directly.
