This page describes the ViewStation's HDS Video
hardware specifications.
HDS Video Hardware Configuration
HDS ViewStation FX models can be configured with a hardware
option called HDS netVideo, which provides both analog and digital
video. This video hardware option (actually a different main circuit
board with video hardware built in) allows the ViewStation to support
connection of an analog video source (camera, VCR, etc.) and to use all
the HDS video clients.
ViewStation with HDS netVideo Hardware
These ViewStation models have a video circuit board that allows
them to accept analog video input (from the HDS ViewCam camera, a VCR,
or from the HDS tuner, etc.). These ViewStations can use all the video
clients.
These ViewStations can use either a normal analog video input
connector (phono jack), or a mini-DIN 4 connector for SVideo input as a
factory-installed option. The mini-DIN connector is supplied with an
adapter cable for accepting a phono plug as input. Note that the SVideo
input can be selected Using the "Input Connector" option in the HDS
video client.
Note on monitors:
You can use the HDS ViewStation with netVideo hardware with any
HDS-supplied monitor, but there is a jumper setting that must be set
depending on whether your monitor uses sync on green in its video
signal. The sync on green signal affects the range of the video
brightness adjustment (typical symptoms of this problem are dim or
overly bright displays).
The HDS ViewStation with netVideo hardware has been set at the
factory for the monitor on the original order; if you want to use a
different monitor, you may have to make this adjustment. The jumper is
at position R60, near the video connector (you will have to remove the
PCMCIA board if one is installed). Align the two pins on R60 with the
two arrows on the jumper label as needed for your monitor. Look
carefully at the label and the arrows, as there is only 0.1" difference
between the two selections.
Note on memory:
HDS ViewStation models with the HDS netVideo hardware option
contain two SIMM sockets for memory, with no memory on the main circuit
board. At least 4 MB of SIMM memory must be installed in socket U3. The
U3 socket must be populated first. The second SIMM socket, U2, can have
memory of any size. A minimum of 8 MB of memory is required for units
equipped with the HDS netVideo hardware option.
