This page describes installling the ViewStation's HDS Video software.
Installing HDSware netVideo Software
Installing HDSware 3.1.0.1 netVideo software
If you have HDSware 3.1.0.1 or higher, you can use the
installation script to install the video software. If your site has
some video ViewStations and some regular ViewStations, you can install
the HDSware 3.1.0.1 with the video options and use that software for all
units. The HDS netVideo clients will appear on the HDSperx menu of all
ViewStations, but the video clients won't start on non-video
ViewStations.
If you have customized your configuration files (config.fx
and
clients.config), you should copy them to another directory and
then restore the customized lines to the new configuration files after
your installation is complete.
1. Load the HDSware tape on your system (use the HDSware
Installation Guide for sample tape commands) and get the installation
script.
For example: tar xvf <device name>
HDSvidinstall
This finds the installation script; it is the first file on
the tape. The tar command continues to search through the entire tape,
which may take a few minutes. Once the screen reports that the
HDSvidinstall is loaded, you can discontinue the search by typing
Ctrl-C.
2. Run the installation script by typing: HDSvidinstall
3. HDSvidinstall requests two things:
-- the
path of your HDSware directory
-- the device name of your tape
drive
4. HDSvidinstall will check for the presence of the ./hds-fx
directory to determine if your HDSware path is correctly specified. It
will also check to see that the files in the directory /hds-fx/hdsvideo
are writable, and exits if they are not. Verify that the write
permissions are correct.
The installation proceeds and notifies you when complete. You
need to reboot your ViewStation in order to use the video software.
Installing HDSware Video Software with Version 3.1
You must have HDSware 3.1 server software installed in order to
use the HDSware video software.
If you have customized your configuration files (config.fx and
clients.config), you should copy them to another directory and then
restore the customized lines to the new configuration files after your
installation is complete.
1. Load the HDSware video software tape on your system. You
should change your directory to the HDSware directory - /path/hds-fx
and load the tape into that directory.
For example:
cd /<path>/hds-fx tar xvf<device name>
The tar command should load the /hdsvideo directory into the
hds-fx tree. You can delete the HDSvidinstall script if you wish.
2. Edit the /hds-fx/config/clients.config file with a text
editor (make sure you have the file permission to do this).
3.
Remove the comment character from the hds.server.Extensions line for the
MIT-SHM extension. This is available with HDSware 3.1. hds.serverExtensions:
/FXUtilities/hds-fx/extensions/MIT-SHM
4. Add this line at the end of the file: #include
"../hdsvideo/config/hdsvideo.clients"
5. Save the clients.config file.
You need to reboot your ViewStation in order to use the video
software. The clients.config file points to the new HDSware video
clients and they will appear on your HDSperx menu in your window
manager's root menu.
