This page describes the ViewStation's HDSplay Audio client.
HDSperx Audio File Playback program - hdsplay
The hdsplay program plays an individual sound file directly to
the ViewStation's audio interface. This program does not use the
NetAudio protocol, or require the auhds server to be running. It can be
used by many applications which require a simple means to output a
sound.
The hdsplay program reads a file specified on its command line
(or from its standard input). The Sun/Next audio format is supported
directly. Raw audio data files can be played by using the `hdsplay'
command line options to set the sample rate, encoding (linear, ulaw),
sample precision (8 or 16 bit), and number of channels (1 or 2).
You should type hdsplay -help in the HDS Console for a
list of hdsplay options.
Examples: rsh testfx hdsplay - < sample.au
rsh
testfx hdsplay /myhost/usr/demo/SOUND/sounds/spacemusic.au
rsh
testfx hdsplay -s 44100 -p 16 -e linear -c 2 - < cdquality.raw
NOTE: The hdsplay program cannot be used if the NetAudio
server is running. If the auhds server is running, a NetAudio program
such as auplay should be used to play sound files.
The HDS play program executable is called ./hds-fx/bin/hdsplay
on the HDSware distribution.
