NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server Window
A NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server window can contain either:
- A DOS session that provides a standard DOS prompt (such as
C:\>), from which you can run DOS commands and applications
- A Windows session that displays the standard Windows desktop, from
which you can run Windows applications
Both kinds of NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server windows contain the following common elements:
- A menu bar across the top of the window containing Window,
Options, and Help menus
- A status bar across the bottom of the window that can display
some status information
You can manipulate NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server windows (for example, move, resize,
iconify, and activate) using all techniques supported by your X
Window manager. If you resize a NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server window smaller than the
default size, window contents are truncated. NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server
prevents you from resizing windows larger than the default size.
If a Windows window is too large to have it and the NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server
menu and status bar appear all on the screen at the same time,
then the menu and status bar will cover over some of Windows
at the top and bottom, thus making the "Start" button inaccessible.
When this is the case, use the "Hide Menu" control described below
to have access to the entire Windows window.
In some situations when you start a Windows session, the menu and status
bar will be automatically hidden. To show the them, use the
Show Menu key, which is by default <Shift><F12>.
Window Menu
The Window menu contains the following choices:
- Hide Menu
-
Select to hide the NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server menu and status bars. To bring the menu
and status bars back into view, use the
Show Menu key, which is by default <Shift><F12>.
- Refresh
-
Select Refresh to repaint your display if it becomes corrupted.
- Exit
-
Select Exit if you cannot quit your DOS or Windows session in the
normal way.
WARNING: If you select Exit from the NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server window
Window menu when a DOS or Windows application is running, or when
you are using unsaved data, you can lose data. Normally, you should
exit a DOS or Windows application in the way recommended for the
application.
Exit Windows using the Start button and selecting Shut Down.
Exit a DOS session by typing quit at the DOS prompt.
Options Menu
The Options menu contains the following choices:
- Mouse Focus to DOS
-
When you run a DOS session, DOS and applications running in the DOS
window normally do not receive any mouse events. Select Mouse
Focus to DOS when you want to use your mouse to communicate with
DOS or a DOS application running in a window on the Desktop. When the
mouse is focused, you cannot move the mouse cursor outside the DOS
window, which means you cannot use the mouse to communicate with
the Desktop or other X applications.
To unfocus the mouse, press the
Show Menu key, which is by default <Shift><F12>.
The NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server window status bar identifies the key combination to use.
This menu selection is disabled when you run Windows. The mouse is
automatically focused when you move the cursor into a Windows
window and unfocused when you move it out.
- DOS Fonts
-
Has three submenu selections: Automatic,
Small, and Medium. These selections determine the font
size used to display text in the NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server window. Automatic, the
default, lets NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server make the decision. Small and Medium
toggle the display between two font sizes.
DOS Fonts only has effect when your window is in standard DOS text mode.
- X Cut & Paste
-
Allows cut, copy, and paste operations
between Windows applications and X applications. This option is
only available for Windows sessions.
Use standard Windows and X cut, copy, and paste techniques.
To initiate a cut, copy, or paste operation, use the technique
appropriate to your environment and application. For example,
to copy text from a Windows application to an X
application, use the copy procedure supplied by the Windows
application and the paste procedure supplied by the X application.
Note: Using this feature adds overhead for every cut and copy operation,
especially when cutting or copying a large amount of data. So normally
should not leave this option enabled when you are actively pasting
between the two environments.

-
Displays an Options dialog box that lets
you specify whether you want NeTraverse Win4Lin Terminal Server windows to use their own
colormap.
It also lets you specify
the key combination used for the Show Menu key.

information.
