Trouble Shooting Guide -
Networking problem with VNET

VNET networking was working but now it is not

If you had VNET networking previously working there are a couple of known things that can happen that can break it.

Perhaps some settings in your Windows session need to be checked. Use the "Networking" control panel to make sure all the settings are correct. The "adapter" type should be listed as the "Merge NIC".

VNET networking never worked.

If your Windows session does NOT have the "Network Neighborhood" icon, then there was a problem when installing the VNET networking. This can happen if some of the network configuration settings were not quite right.

For example if you leave the IP Address setting blank, then Windows setup assumes that you really did not want to install networking!

If this is the case, you should do the "Upgrade to VNET Networking" procedure that is covered in chapter 2 of the User's Guide.

If your Windows session has the "Network Neighborhood" icon, then follow the advice in the previous section "VNET networking was working but now it is not".

The "LM Annouce" property of "File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" affects how quickly a Windows session exits. You should set this property to "No", unless you know it has to be set to "Yes" for your Lan Manager network. When it is set to "Yes" then it causes long delays when shutting down Windows.

With the Microsoft Network Neighborhood, it takes some time for it to set it self up each time you start up a Windows session. So if you do not see everything you expect right away, just give it some time.
