Repeated attempts to stop the system with Pause-A will eventually stop it. This means that you cannot use programs such as workman and read_cdda. 00292 After swapping a SCSI disk during save/resume the partition map of the previous drive is retained until you run format or prtvtoc. This happens even though there are no partitions open (mounted) on that disk. It can cause unexpected corruption if the position of file systems of the new and old disks match up and are then mounted. 00295 There is a problem with Solaris 2.5 and enabling disk security. The documentation states that the s/n will automatically add itself to the access list. (page 2-28 , first note "Your own SPARCbook3 automatically has access to your hard disk.") If this is enabled and no s/n is entered and the system is rebooted, you will get a disk security violation and cannot boot up. (From T20001-01) Fixes to the sd driver as per SUN Patch 102984-01. (From 102984-01) 1224486 sd: there should be retries for both read & write in case of media/hw error 1224604 sd: retries on KEY_ABORTED_COMMAND should eventually be given up Patch Installation Instructions: -------------------------------- Refer to the Install.info file within the patch for instructions on using the generic 'installpatch' and 'backoutpatch' scripts provided with each patch. Solaris Release: 2.5 SunOS Release: 5.5 Unbundled Product: Unbundled Release: Topic: Sparcbook 3 save/resume panics. BugId's fixed with this patch: 00240 Changes incorporated in this version: Relevant Architectures: sparc Patches accumulated and obsoleted by this patch: Patches which conflict with this patch: Patches required with this patch: Obsoleted by: Files included with this patch: /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/iommu Problem Description: After an apparently successful save, the system panics on resume. Filesystem errors will be seen on reboot - probably due to the panic. It has been observed that the memory at the panicing execution address is all zero. This only applies to the microSPARC 1 based systems (S3 and S3LC). Patch Installation Instructions: -------------------------------- Refer to the Install.info file within the patch for instructions on using the generic 'installpatch' and 'backoutpatch' scripts provided with each patch. Any other special or non-generic installation instructions should be described below. Special Install Instructions: ----------------------------- Reboot the system after patch installation. Patch-ID# T20004-02 Aug/27/96 Keywords: Network install hang kernel jumbo save resume cpr Synopsis: Jumbo patch for kernel and Save/Resume Solaris Release: 2.5 SunOS Release: 5.5 Unbundled Product: Unbundled Release: Topic: Kernel jumbo patch BugId's fixed with this patch: 00267 00230 00232 00235 00238 00243 00245 Changes incorporated in this version: Relevant Architectures: sparc Patches accumulated and obsoleted by this patch: T20002-01 Patches which conflict with this patch: Patches required with this patch: Obsoleted by: Files included with this patch: /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/tpunix /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/uctrl /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/urt /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/zs /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/saveresume /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/p9000 /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/p9100 /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/misc/cpr /kernel/drv/ts102 Problem Description: 00230 If you are playing an audio track through the DBRI/Codec (Not S3 or S3LC) while the system is Save'ed there is about a 10% chance that it will crash during or after the Resume due to accesses to the DBRI while it is turned off. During the Save you will get the warning message: WARNING: SUNW,DBRIs30: Failed checkpoint SAVE 00232 The way in which a save to disk is performed has the potential to create a Save that looks valid but in fact is not. The label identifying a valid save could be correct but the rest of the save may have failed. A more robust method would be to write the valid save identification last after all of memory had been successfully saved. 00235 If you install the SUN Save/Resume package (SUNWcpr) and attempt to use it the system will not save due to various device driver not supporting the DDI_SUSPEND and DDI_RESUME attach/detach calls. 00245 In order to be sure that no user processes are active during the Save shutdown code all processes should be stopped in some manner before calling the device detach() routines with the DDI_SAVE option. This is not always done. There is code to do this but it is in the pre_syscall() function which is rarely called. (From T20004-01) 00267 If you attempt to install a system from a network install server using the D.0 CD there is potential for the system to hang after it has printed the message: "Configuring the /devices directory". Although there are no confirmed occurances of the problem it could also give rise to stuck processes after a Save/Resume cycle. (From T20002-01) 00238 Failure messages from the tft_power() function and alarm failure. On Resume a number of the activity indicators are on when they shouldn't be. 00243 After a resume the keyboard appears dead except that a save may be initiated by Pause+O. The system will remain in this state until rebooted. All other functions seem OK: the mouse works, it is possible to login over Ethernet and run commands. Network installation: In order to enable reliable network installation from a server you must copy the D.0 CD to a disk and manually replace the tpunix module in the export/exec/kvm/sparc.Solaris_2.5/platform/tadpole4m/kernel directory with the one from this patch (TADcar.s3/reloc/platform/tadpole4m/kernel/tpunix).
