1.  INTRODUCTION

    The AMD driver that comes with this Disk supports the PCNET family 
    of ethernet adapters.

    Below are instructions to upgrade an existing AMD driver or
    to do new installation of the driver.

2.  RELEVANT FILES

    The Disk contains the following files

    AMD.RDM - This file.
    PCNTN3.SYS - AMD Driver for PCNET Family of Adapters
    OEMSETUP.INF - Network card installation file
    PCNETDLG.DLL - Setup dll.

3.  UPGRADE PROCEDURE

    a.  Boot the server and start Windows NT

    b.  Log in as the administrator.

    c.  In the "Main" Workgroup window, select the "Control Panel" Icon.

    d.  In the "Control Panel" window, select the "Network" Icon.

    e.  Insert the Software Support disk into an available floppy drive.

    f.  Under the "Installed Adapter Cards" box, highlight the AMD driver.

    g.  Select the "Update" button.

    h.  At the prompt asking you to specify the path where OEMSETUP.INF
        exists, type:

                 [diskette drive]:\path

            where

                 [diskette drive ] = drive letter where the 
                                     support diskette resides

                 Example:   a:\path

            Hit Enter.  The PCNTN3.SYS will be copied into the
            appropriate directory.

    i.  Select OK.

    j.  Remove the support diskette from your diskette drive.
        Select "Yes" to have your machine be automatically restarted.
        Your new selections will be activated once Windows NT has
        restarted.

4.  INSTALLATION

    a.  Boot the server and start Windows NT

    b.  Log in as the administrator.

    c.  In the "Main" Workgroup window, select the "Control Panel" Icon.

    d.  In the "Control Panel" window, select the "Network" Icon.

    e.  Insert the Software Support diskette into an available
        floppy drive.

    f.  Select the "Add Adapter" button.

    g.  A window titled "Add Network Adapter" will pop-up and under
        the box titled "Network Adapter Card", select 'OTHER'.

        The driver "AMD PCNET Family Ethernet Adapter" will be highlighted.

        Select "Ok".

    h.  A window will pop-up asking for the path to the Windows NT
        distribution files.  Make sure that the Compaq Support
        diskette is in a diskette drive.  At the prompt, type the
        following:

                 [diskette drive]:\path

            where

                 [diskette drive ] - drive letter where the 
                                     support diskette resides

                 Example:  a:\path

        Hit Enter.  The PCNTN3.SYS driver will be copied into the
        appropriate directory.

    i.  A menu will appear containing the configuration options for
        the adapter, i.e. IRQ, DMA and IOADDR.  Choose the settings
        appropriate for your system and select "Ok" once you're done.

    j.  After the adapter has been added select "Ok".

    k.  Remove the support diskette from your diskette drive.
        Select "Yes" to have your machine be automatically restarted.
        Your new selections will be activated once Windows NT has
        restarted.
