The machine must be rebooted for Wx86 emulation to become active. win32 app caveats and limitaions: 1. Some win32 x86 application setups are initiated by a Win16 executable that determines the machine type by looking at the environment variables PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE and PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER. If they are not set as follows, they complain about an incorrect version of Windows and refuse to install. The work around is: - Open Control Panel, System, Environment - set PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE=x86 - set PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER=80486-1 - From the command line execute: kill -f ntvdm - run application setup 2. We intend to support all win32 apis, which are common between Win95 and WinNT 4.0. We do not support Ntoskrnl apis. If there are apis for which support has not yet been added, and they are blocking testing or common usage send email to Wx86 and we will add it to the priority list. 3. Debug support is very limited, we only support ntsd with Wx86e.dll (ntsd extension dll) for debugging x86 processes. We do not support x86 debuggers, windbg, nor Dr.Watson. 4. Alpha platforms currently have limitations associated with the difference in the page size granularity. Alpha uses 8K pages while all other winnt platforms use 4K pages. This can produce problems with applications which assume that the machine's page size is 4K and depends on the 4K granularity for correct operation. This also makes it impossible to support shared dll data sections, if the application uses a 4K image alignment. In this case the shared dll data sections are treated as normal instance data and are not shared between process. Shared dll data sections are supported correctly if the image alignment is a multiple of 8k.
