What's New in Network Node Manager 6.01 Runtime Release
For more details about the following features, see the NNM documentation set or the
extensive information under NNM's Help menu item.
NNM 6.01
- New capability in xnmgraph to automatically configure data collections for the data
currently being shown on the graph. Use the File->Configure
Data Collector... menu item. Only the new items being configured are shown in
the xnmcollect GUI when this operation is performed, but
on a save the new items become part of the normal collections stored in snmpCol.conf.
- New capabilities have been added to perform many functions on interfaces as well as
entire nodes. Both xnmgraph and rnetstat
now support invocation for a specific interface (not just a node). This is
especially helpful in xnmgraph when the node may have many
interfaces. rnetstat now has special capabilities
for gathering information specific to an interface. Thus, all of the standard menu
items under the Performance, Configuration, and Fault menus can now be invoked on a
selected set of Interface objects, not only on a selected set of Node objects. In
addition new pop-up menu items for Interface objects have been added to quickly obtain
status information.
To see this new functionality, rather than selecting a node symbol, instead select a line
between two symbols or drill down into a node and select one or more of the interfaces.
Then select one of the menu items to view status or statistics, for example: Configuration->Network Configuration->Interface: Properties
or Performance->Network
Activity->Interface->Traffic->Utilization
- rnetstat now supports many new options for inquring
about various aspects of a node or interface. New functionality includes support for
quering Frame Relay, DS1/DS3, ATM and SONET MIBS. See the rnetstat.1
man page for details.
- New support in xnmgraph (and a helper executable 'ovexprguru') to do "smart" graphing of
various statistics based on the configuration of the particular device being graphed.
For example, you can now see a utilization graph which for Full Duplex interfaces
shows input and output rates as separate lines, but Half Duplex interfaces are graphed as
a single line. These enhancements support the proper use of high speed counters.
See the ovexprguru.1 man page for more details.
- In conjunction with the above functionality many new expressions are shipped as part of mibExpr.conf.
- The NNM installation is now split into three main phases. First the Event Correlation Services, then the OpenView SNMP Agent (and corresponding man pages), and lastly Network Node Manager itself.
- Four documentation fileset names have changed within the OVNNMgrDOC product to support a 14 character naming convention. OVNNM-WEL-ENGDOC, OVNNM-WEL-JPNDOC, OVNNM-DEV-ENGDOC, and OVNNM-DEV-JPNDOC have been changed to OVNNMWELENGDOC, OVNNMWELJPNDOC, OVNNMDEVENGDOC, and OVNNMDEVJPNDOC respectively.

- New View:Show Correlated Events to view the alarms suppressed by the Event
Correlation Services.
- The event browser (xnmevents) has been renamed 'Alarm Browser' in support of NNM's new
operational model for alarm management, and menu items have changed from 'event' to
'alarm'.
- Simpler Licensing
- Node locked only (netls) license server no longer used.

on the management station
- Collection
Station Support
- Management stations running on Windows NT can now receive distributed data from
Collection Stations running on either UNIX or Windows NT
- The ovrepld service (background process) that listens for Collection Stations
is not automatically started on a fresh installation. It is only started after the
first xnmtopoconf command establishes a Collection Station.
