Customer Views for NNM adds new functionality for managing customers in the context of your network. The customer-specific network management feature allows you to manage customers in the context of your network. You can more easily manage relationships between customers and their access links, interfaces, or servers. You can determine which of your network resources, such as routers and servers, are associated with a specific customer, can generate reports for customers, and determine which customers are impacted by problems in the network. This functionality is accessed through the Configuration:Organizations menu item when a customer or organization object is selected on the map.
Customer management is further enhanced by the addition of new top-level symbols for grouping customer information and devices. These symbols include Key Resources, Sites, and Internet Links. You can associate your customers with their network devices, site layouts, and Internet links to more easily manage their connectivity.
New choices in the Context Selection Box of the Internet window that are specific to customer management include:
Customer Views for NNM adds new menu items for monitoring and managing the status of interfaces and links between network nodes. You can determine the upstream and downstream performance of DS1/E1, DS3/E3, ATM, and SONET/SDH interfaces as well as Frame Relay circuits. Using this information, you can fine-tune and troubleshoot your network to provide better performance for your customers. These interfaces can be monitored through the SNMP Data Presenter.
You can read about the following concepts: (Available only if Customer Views for NNM is installed.)
Using the SNMP Data Presenter, you can monitor the performance and status of many
different types of interface and nodes. The SNMP Data Presenter displays results of operations that present tabular or
textual data for managed SNMP nodes selected from the map. You can invoke the SNMP Data
Presenter by selecting target nodes in the content area of the Network Presenter and then
selecting the SNMP Data Presenter from the Network Presenter menu or from the Launcher. When accessed from the Launcher, the scoping pane of the SNMP Data Presenter contains
three categories, with actions under each category, in a tree format. You can click on the
category items to expand them and then click on an action to execute that action. You can
also use the category drop down to choose a category to expand. The results of an action
are shown in the content area.
