Format Expression

The MDL format describes the layout of individual attributes (e.g. field width) and how they are to be separated.

The MDL attribute formats are:

  • width: (e.g. width=10). Sets the maximum number of characters or digits for an Integer, Real, or String attribute. If width is set to the special value var (i.e. width=var), then the attribute has variable width.

  • justify: (e.g. justify=left). Valid for fixed width Integer, Real or String attributes. If the attribute value has fewer characters or digits than the width, it is justified according to the value of justify. The justify format can be set to left, right or center.

  • pad: (e.g. pad="*"). Valid for justified Integer, Real or String attributes. The attribute value is padded with the pad character up to the size of width

  • places: (e.g. places=2). Valid for Real attributes. Sets the number of decimal places.

  • true: (e.g. true="top","*"). Returns true if a String contains any of the given values.

  • false: (e.g. false="top","*"). Returns false if a String contains any of the given values.
