ecsmdlchk

ecsmdlchk - HP OpenView Event Correlation Services MDL Checker

SYNOPSIS

ecsmdlchk [-v] [-e event-file] [-o generated-metadata] mdlsource | mdlmetadata

DESCRIPTION

ecsmdlchk is the HP OpenView Event Correlation Services (ECS) Message Definition Language (MDL) Checker. The checker may be used to decode and re-encode an existing event log file.

ecsmdlchk verifies an event log using either the specified metadata file, or MDL source file(s). If at least one MDL source files is specified, then they are converted to metadata first (using ecsmdt). The output of the event verification is written to stdout and contains header information about the decoded event and an ECDL like printout of the event. If the -v option is used, the original event is output in addition to the re-encoding of the event.

Options

ecsmdlchkrecognizes the following options:

-v
Prints a copy of the original event and the reencoding of the event after the ECDL representation of the event.
-e event-file
Specifies an event file to try to decode using the metadata.
-o generated-metadata
If MDL source is passed in, then the resulting metadata is copied into the file specified. Otherwise, a copy of the passed metadata file is made in the specified file.

RETURN VALUE

ecsmdlchk returns 0 upon normal completion and >0 if an error occurred.

EXAMPLES

To check the events in an existing event log file called evin.log using an MDL source code file called evdef.mdl:

ecsmdlchk -v -e evin.log evdef.mdl

To verify events in file evin.log using the metadata generated by the MDL source file evdef.mdl and make a copy of the generated metadata in the file evdef.md:

ecsmdlchk -e evin.log evdef.mdl -o evdef.md
