The components of ECS are:

• HP OpenView ECS Designer
• HP OpenView ECS Designer for CIT (for designing circuits for NNM and ITO)
• HP OpenView ECS Engine (see below)
• HP OpenView ASCII Module for ECS
• HP OpenView SNMP Module for ECS

The ECS Engine is integrated into the pmd (postmaster) for all version of ECS except the open product and ECS for ITO. Integration with the pmd provides event transport functionality.

The open product depends on the developer to provide an event I/O interface through the supplied APIs.

In ITO the ECS engine is integrated into the agent and all message transport is handled by ITO.
