The pmd-linked ECS engine (used in HP OpenView NNM and TMN products) relies on the postmaster (shown in the illustration as the DM-PMD) as a transport pipe for SNMP and CMIP events.
8-bit text-based events can be received by, and sent to, the ECS engine using the event I/O APIs.
