Mouse buffer driver

The AUTO folder program MOUSEBUF.PRG is able to buffer and delay mouse
movements for the Paint module. With very fast mouse movements, it's
possible that insufficient processing time is available for every mark in a
sequence to be noted. Since the Operating System only reports the current
mouse position, an interrupted row of points is received instead of a
continuous line.

If the MOUSEBUF driver is installed and the Paint module called, this ugly
effect is avoided. Each step of the mouse is evaluated, resulting in a nice
uninterrupted, clean line. As a result of this delay to overcome lack of
processing time, rapid movements of the mouse will not be followed in
real-time; response time of the mouse will therefore lag slightly.

With extreme use of the mouse (very fast or a lot of movements) and with
simultaneous use of a time-intensive painting tool, it's possible that the
buffer can overflow. This will be indicated by an acoustic signal (the
"bell" sound). One should stop for a moment or two for the buffer to empty
before mouse movements can be followed again. With normal working methods
no overflow situation should ever occur.

All adequate systems developed graphics tablet drivers already have
buffering built-in, thus there's no need to install MOUSEBUF.

INSTALLATION

You can easily check whether MOUSBUF or other suitable driver is installed,
simply select the function "Define Tool Parameters". If the line "Use Mouse
Buffer" appears, then Paint has found the driver. The mouse buffer is
activated by selecting the box next to it.

Actually installing MOUSEBUF is very easy. Simply copy the file
MOUSEBUF.PRG into the AUTO folder of your fixed or removable hard drive,
and reboot your system. The driver displays a short Copyright message and
version number as it loads. It's possible that the following error messages
might be displayed:

	INSTALLATION ABORTED
A tablet driver has already been installed

	Press any key to continue

The AUTO folder already contains contains a graphics tablet or mouse driver
with the adequate systems programming interface. Only one driver can be
installed in the system at once - in this case, MOUSEBUF.PRG isn't needed!

	INSTALLATION ABORTED
TOS version 1.02 or higher required

	Press any key to continue

This message can only appear when there is a very old Operating System
installed. In this case we urgently recommend that you obtain an up-to-date
version!

After reading any error message which might appear, press any key to
continue the boot process. Please note though that the driver will not be
installed.

	KNOWN PROBLEMS

If MOUSEBUF is used together with a version of the Atari mouse accelerator
MACCEL older than V4.0, MOUSEBUF must run *before* the accelerator in the
boot sequence, or the accelerator will not activate. This is due to a bug
in MACCEL3.
