STYLUS_Color / Color II / Color IIs / Pro / Pro XL:
STY_C_FT:
- Driver for Epson Stylus Color in 180 & 360 dpi
- Apart from horizontal empty spaces (which however are also shortened
by the TIFF compression) this driver uses all available means for data
  reduction.
- STY_C_FT works without MicroWeaving, i.e. multiple offset printing of
the line, as well as bidirectionally, thus giving fast printouts.
- For B/W printing use the driver for Epson Stylus 800; even though this
does not offer TIFF optimization, the Calamus page build-up for black
is in any case faster than for colour.
- MicroWeaving is only supported for 360 dpi and higher.
- To date no rasters or control curves exist for this printer, the PDI
file contained in the prototype is not optimized.
- Due to the relatively large memory of the Stylus Color, which accepts
compressed data, this printer is extremely fast.
- The driver does not send pure TIFF data, but switches over after the
NEWLINE code to the TIFF binary commands mode, in which besides TIFF
data some commands such as colour change and vertical moves appear. For
this reason the NEWLINE code is sent at the start of each partial page,
not before each line. An adaptation for non-Epson printers is therefore
  not possible.
- According to the manual, it should be possible to change the upper
margin (paper load position) from 8.5 to 3 mm. I have attempted in vain
to do this in the printer setup (see manual), because my printer
refused to save these settings on switch-off. I have also looked for a
corresponding software code without success. If anyone finds the
pillar of wisdom, one only has to set the top margin in the paper
format to 3 mm, stir, and that's it!

STY_C_72:
- Driver for Stylus Color in 720 dpi
- Should ***ONLY*** be used with Epson's Special paper, otherwise the
results will look like potate-stamped colour daubs.
- This driver can only be used with Calamus SL from 1994 on, as
previous versions were limited to 650 dpi.
- According to Epson, the maximum output density with 720 dpi should not
exceed 65%. Therefore corresponding output corrections should be made.
- As the prototype contains a PDI file with '360' rasters, the driver
diskette contains a PDI file for the generated '720' driver, which
after each generation with STOOL.CXM should be integrated into the
driver. With STY_C_72.CDT in the PRINTERS folder this has been done
  already.
- For an optimum printout we recommend here in particular the use of the
STAR SCREENING module, which creates frequency modulated rasters which
  appreciably improve the printed result.
