3D Segmentation

This 3D solid model of the ventricles was constructed from time-gated MRI scan data and is used in training and diagnostic settings to understand flow and motion in the brain. The data from the MRI slices allows researchers to accurately threshold and segment the internal and external structures of soft tissue. This allows for capturing the surface area and volume measurements during the process of 3D reconstruction. These measurements also make it possible to track physical properties such as tumor size over the course of a disease. The interior of these objects is represented in tetrahedral geometries which are readily converted into finite element (FE) or computational fluid dynamic (CFD) meshes.
