Virtual Crime Fighters
Once a skull is created that represents a missing person, it is fit with prototypical skin and manipulated to represent what the forensic artist believes the individual originally looked like. This computerized version of the "Gorky Park" technique allows forensic experts to collaborate on the identification process with others across the world in minutes.
Age Dating
UBC's dental forensic experts have worked the process backwards to help identify missing persons, especially children. Dentistry is concerned with the skeletal growth of the face including the eyes, cheek, and jaw, because this impacts tooth development. By developing a method of predicting and illustrating the changes in facial appearance of individuals over time, they can use digitized animation software to appropriately age the last known photograph of a person.
