Without Them...We're Nothing
The OOBE team agreed that the best way to demonstrate O2's digital prowess would be to showcase model customers who have created and implemented new paradigms that push the limits of visual computing and networking on existing Silicon Graphics® platforms. The OOBE project writers interviewed nearly 50 Silicon Graphics customers until they arrived at the final 12 customers that the OOBE CD could accommodate. The creation of the Innovations Gallery proved more challenging than anticipated, with file-format discrepancies, 14-hour downloads, language barriers, 1 a.m. phone calls necessitated by eight time zones, all in addition to everyone's usual busy schedules. Thanks to our participating customer companies and their invaluable liasons to the OOBE project, we were able to complete this seemingly impossible task with satisfying results.It has been a long road from inception of the OOBE concept through execution of the final experience. We set out to push the envelope with VRML and other embryonic Net protocols to deliver a valuable user orientation, and we hope that the fruits of our labor have resulted in a mission accomplished. Ultimately, we expect that this OOBE adventure will help you maximize the potential of your new O2 machine and increase your sense of where visualization and networked computing is headed.
