Online Documentation

Online documentation is available in several formats. For help with any application, use the application's Help menu. This page begins with a description of InfoSearch, an entry point to all your online documentation. Also included here are brief explanations of some of the different kinds of information available.

InfoSearch

InfoSearch is "one stop shopping" for all online information available (if installed) with your system software. Online books, release notes, man pages, and application help cards can be accessed through InfoSearch.

InfoSearch allows you to selectively search or browse through the available online information.

Quick Answers

From the desktop toolchest, choose Help > Quick Answers, for questions and answers you might have about using your system.

Online Books

The online books are detailed, task-oriented guides and references. Note that most application online Help is a subset of an online book.

To browse the online books, choose Help > Online Books from the Toolchest.

"Man" Pages

Man pages are typically grouped by the name of command and typically list the proper syntax or usage.

You need to know the name of a command in order to use this resource.

Release Notes

Release notes contain last-minute information, installation instructions, and new feature lists for each product.

You should read release notes before you install a new or updated release of a software product.

You can read release notes from your CD-ROM before installing a product by using the CDgrelnotes command. (Refer to the booklet in the software product's CD-ROM case for instructions on reading the release notes.) You can also access release notes through InfoSearch.
